What is the trick to use the buttons with the ^ symbol to change values? For example the material editor has one next to almost every option. I click on the button but nothing happens - at least from what I can tell. Maybe I am not understanding the usage...

Click on it and hold mouse button down. Move up to increase, Move down to decrease
