The model has been created in 3D Max with use of a standard material.

RE: Problem with materials in ModelEditor
You can set its alpha with the material editor... just play with it smile

There is always evil somewhere, you just have to look for it properly.

RE: Problem with materials in ModelEditor
Set the material "Tech" (technique) to "Blend Light" and then modify the A (alpha = transparency = opacity) slider.

However, I think the importer should recognize the transparent material automatically and set the technique accordingly...

Thanks. I so understand that in 3d max to create a material there is no sense. The importer does not support the majority of properties?

No I think it support almost everything from diffuse color (map) to bumpmap and more.
Try creating a simple scene of objects with not even any materials applied (just the helper colors): The color will be imported!
Just not transparency as it seems.
