Data Server
I tried running the Data Server and it still requires some video card features. I thought the sole purpose of the data server was simply for centralized file sharing. Is there any reason for this? I am trying to run it on a Windows 2003 server and the server does not have any GPU video card installed. Is there anything I can do to force it to run even without a GPU video card?

RE: Data Server
I think it needs the DX installed (even without GPU) and APP_ALLOW_NO_GPU flag set.

RE: Data Server
Where can I get the compiled Data Server executable that already has that set? it seems the downloaded SDK may be older.
Actually, its complaining about "the video card is not able to support certain formats or not enough video RAM".

RE: Data Server
Well, maybe Esenthel needs to recompile that and update?

RE: Data Server
Thanks!

I just tried and its throwing an error: Can't load "gfx/fx/fur/0.gfx"

If I have to guess, the data server shouldn't need to load those, correct?

RE: Data Server
Hi,

Does your windows server 2003 has latest DirectX runtime installed?

and, are you using unmodified engine.pak from the SDK (located in SDK/data)?
Data Server requires engine.pak in that folder

RE: Data Server
I am unable to run the autoupdate for similar reasons. I will try to do a manual update and provide feedback then.

RE: Data Server
Oh yes, I've had that installed, thanks. I still haven't had the chance to perform the manual update. I expect to be able to do it in a few hours.

RE: Data Server
Thanks, in that case it looks like Windows Server 2003 can't create D3D textures.

I've tested only Windows Server 2008, and there Data Server DX9 and Data Server DX10 work fine.

In the meantime I've uploaded new SDK with Data Server's that don't load the fur textures, so when checking the Data Servers please make sure to use latest SDK.

If you experience anyother D3D object creation failure on Windows Server 2003, please let me know.

RE: Data Server
Thank you very much. I now have the Data Server running in our assets server. As far as the game server that will run the server code, that has to have a shader 2.0 or higher capable video card, correct?

RE: Data Server
Hi,

I recommend using Windows Server 2008, there you can use DX10+ engine lib
which will allow displaying simple gui graphics without the need for any GPU

I'm running Ineisis Online server on Windows Server 2008 using DX10+ engine without any GPU.

On Windows Server 2008 DX9 you can also load D3D objects like textures, meshes.
But you're not able to draw them on the screen.

Since you had problems loading the texture on Windows Server 2003, I understand that 2003 has smaller DirectX 9 compatibility (can't load textures to memory). WS2003 does not support DX10.

Summary:
WS 2008 DX10 - load textures and drawing supported
WS 2008 DX9 - load textures supported, but without drawing on screen

WS 2003 DX10 - not available (WS 2003 doesn't support DX10)
WS 2003 DX9 - loading textures unavailable, drawing unavailable

This is a screen of Remote Desktop Connection to my Windows Server 2008, running Ineisis Server, without GPU on board, using DX10+ engine lib.
Drawing is performed using DirectX WARP software.
