I can't seem to create any water. It tells me I need a material for the water, but when I try to drag a material to the slot, it doesn't drop in there, so I can't create any water. What am I doing wrong?

Yes, I have seen that tutorial, but it doesn't mention anything about water.

A water-material is not the same as a material.
Right-click the list with your project elements and choose to create a new water material. You can drag that one in.
