Disclaimer - Yes, i know, doing an MMO is 'stupid' for a first game. But who cares? We're treating this as a hobby, and maybe in a year or so we can release enough content to make some money.
Antioch Online is a hybrid skill/level-based massively-multiplayer online medieval fantasy role-playing game. The emphasis is on abusing Esenthel's graphics features to make the game look great, while still modeling/texturing everything so that low-end computers can play @ 30+ FPS. Definitely not trying to re-create Oblivion or Crysis here.
Key Features:
* PvP with Consequences - our system will be similar to a Blue/Grey/Red system commonly found in Ultima-Online type games with more complication - with 'Good' moral standing, you will lose less items and less experience at death compared to a player with 'Bad' moral standing - the worse your moral standing gets, the more severe item and experience loss becomes at death.
* Player & Guild Housing - Scattered around the gameworld are player homes and guild castles that can be bid on by players and guilds as they become available. In addition to being able to fully customize item placement in your home, if you log off in your home you will have various long-term buffs when you log back in, which scale according to the luxuriousness of your home.
* Truly Open World - No instanced dungeons or housing. All in 3D.
* 'Hardcore' Factions - For those that enjoy the tough and unusual, there will be several 'hardcore' factions to join that radically alter your gameplay both negatively and positively, that require many long and difficult quests to unlock. For example, the Paladin faction - Grants the player unique spells and abilities, but they are forever forbidden to attack and kill other players with 'Good' moral standing, on pain of being removed from the faction. Another is the Vampire faction - Grants the player the unique abilities of a vampire, at the cost of having to kill to maintain their strength, only able to play at night, and are permanently Red.
* Supermen - Every couple of weeks, players can vote in several of their own to become superhuman - potions have their effects increased, all skills and abilities are radically more powerful, and the unique ability to fly around the gameworld are at their disposal. In fact, several outdoor raid-level monsters are nearly impossible to kill without the help of a Superman. There is only one rule for Supermen - get re-elected, or lose all of your abilities.
* Scaled Player Power - The relative power increases each level are not outrageous - a large mob of level 10's, several level 50's, or just two level 75's can track and kill a level 100 player.
* Heavy Emphasis on Trade - Ore has weight, and must be processed in town. A player will have to mine the ore at a mine, and face danger in getting the ore to market. Several entrepots are along the way that reduce the risk (and the profit) of moving raw materials to the cities, and finished products (like pickaxes) will need to be moved to where they are needed - Thus people specializing in only trading will be very important to the economy of the game.
* Items degrade over time/through use - Armor and weapons are not bind on equip and will not last forever - a sword for example will degrade through use, can be repaired a few times, and will eventually break and need to be replaced. Consumables like potions will lose their potency over time, and foods like bread will go bad.

We're really looking actively for a programmer that can put together some basic offline stuff for us, and we're more than willing to trade models and such for the services, fyi.
