[SOLVED] OSX 10.14: Esenthel crashes computer (kernel panic)

So...

OSX 10.14.6, MacPro:

Happened when trying to edit terrain for the first time.
I didn't try to edit terrain before.
I tested this two times, because of the havoc it creates I will obviously not test it again.
But I am pretty confident that this will fail 100% of the time.

Tried the first time with the "Bloody Massacre" World, where the system crashed after doing
Terrain->Down/Up->Right Click into the world.

Then later on a second time with a brand new/empty project --> dropping a material in and right-clicking into the world.

This is some serious stuff dude...

Thank you for reporting the problem.
On my MacAir 10.15.6 everything works fine.
Since the whole system crashes this looks like a bug in the system/driver.
Please first update MacOS to latest version, then try again.
If error still happens, you can try to compile Engine in Debug mode.
Run Esenthel Builder \ Compile Mac (Debug)
Then open Esenthel Editor in Xcode

Run in Debug mode, and try to reproduce the crash (attach any callstack and other helpful information)

After downloading the Esenthel-Master from Github and running Esenthel Builder I get this in a popup window:

Can't find Esenthel Root Path

By updating to the latest version, you mean updating to Catalina?
Or Big Sur?? Can't do that. I rely on professional Software and plugins that are incompatible at least with BigSur.

(By the way: I also installed Esenthel on my Parallels Windows Partition. Terrain works fine there but I lose mouse control in the viewport (can't pan/dolly/rotate cam by mouse. Will install on my Dell laptop as well. If everything fails it should be possible to connect the laptop instance to the Mac Instance via network, right?)

Maybe it's some permission issue in the OS about can't access files, or download wasn't complete.

Perhaps recompiling it on your local machine would sign code it to run on your local machine.

If you have a Mac computer, then perhaps the best way for gamedev would be to use Bootcamp and install Windows on it.

Looks like you're right. I've started OSX in safe mode and the terrain works there. Terribly slow obviously, with constant spinning ball because no drivers are loaded, but works.

Totally forgot about bootcamp. I have parallels installed for other software that I sometimes need to work with but probably bootcamp is indeed the better solution for game-dev.

I swapped out graphics cards.

NVIDIA vs. ATI.
Terrain works with the ATI. This is very interesting as I have read already a couple
of times that quite some people had problems with Nvidia Cards/Drivers and
Esenthel.

So I think I am good now.
