Try to update your EE version, and make sure that the engine.pak is the latest one. Also it can happen when updating that if u have vs2008 running that some files not have been copied.

Did you set right path to data directory in autoupdate?

you must have wrong engine pak (it must be located "../data/engine.pak" being relative to converter tool)
