One that I have been looking at is Speed Tree (though I know its a bit on the expensive side- They have gone up in price again :( I just checked.)
There was a cheep(er) alternitive someplace, but I cannot remember what it was called. They did all sorts of flora. Does anyone know or remember what that api was called?
[Edit: I found it: Tree Magic and Plant Life Though it looks like AlienCode was bought out. So Im not sure if this is only compatable with Blitz products now or not.]
Peace,

I tried checking out plant life. It will not install the demo on my machine. Says Vista unsupported. :( Tree magic installs but just hangs. :(
Speedtree is way to expensive for an indie.
Maybe ngplant ? It is similar but does not have animations. It is BSD license which makes it useable in commercial packages.

RE: 3rd party libraries you would like working with Esenthel.
I have not messed with tree magic really in several years. So I am not even sure if any of the plugins are updated or not. I just looked at their site and I do not see anything really different yet. They still have the same "special" price they had over a year ago.
I just posted those up as possible alternatives that someone might get some use out of. I also am on a vista system as well. So that one was a no go for me. with this project, but I am always looking!
The best thing I have ever used is speed tree. Though that does cost a pretty penny none the less. They do offer Speed Tree4 still, and it is a bit cheaper.
Nice thing would be to find something like speed tree that is not as expensive and made just for us indies. I will keep looking around and if I do find anything I will post that up. So far though I have not really found anything that is the same or similar.. and works even half as good as speed tree yet.
Peace,

Did you try running in XP compatible mode? I have both Plant Life and Tree Magic and I have a Vista and Windows 7 machine. I honestly don't know the last time I used either one of these but I feel sure I ran them on my Vista machine at some point. Next time I boot it up I will try. I haven't installed either one on my Windows 7 machine yet.

Also worth considering: NetDog. It's a C++ based networking engine designed for MMOs which focuses on performance and ease-of-use. $299 per server (with up to 1000 simultaneous clients) for the Indie license.

Any updates on this? IE, any chance of getting grome compatibility, or any of the other libraries listed here?

FXpression looks quite nice, another one:
SPARK - http://spark.developpez.com/ - open source particle engine
I've used this one successfully with some other engines and my own opengl framework.
