• Can I load a remote texture file? By remote I mean stored on a web server.

yes, you can use Download class

Look at the documentation of the Esenthel Engine and how models should be imported. It says what's needed and where you can download it. Furthermore, there is also a video on the main website that shows how to insert a model into the editor.
