On the main download page, it says the engine requires 2008 to work. But can it work with the 2005 version as well (Since that's the one I have..)?

No guaranty, but u can try.
After all 2008 is free, u don't have any reasons to remain with 2005.

ive had some problems with 2005, its recommended to use 2008
