Greetings to the forum
(Sorry, for my english. I am using the google translator to write this message.)

This is my first post, and I would like to send a greeting to the forum.

I use to model Blender, also I use Wings 3D (only to convert .3ds to .obj, when the importer of Blender does not work well with all .3ds).

My main hobby is to test game engines. (newbie, I have never finished a game). The game engines that I have been tested: Reality Factory (free), 3DGameStudio A7 (A friend left it to me), Dark Game Development Kit (gdk, free).

Currently no longer use. I prefer free engines and that generates an executable file. The Dark gdk is free (it's easy, using the same name in the commands that the Dark Basic) but showed errors when compiling the library included <fstream> for handling data files. The Dark gdk include their own commands process files but neither worked well.

Now I am testing Irrlicht engine, that also, includes many examples in the installation file. The syntax of programming that is full of arrows '->', give a little scared, but I really can do things with a few lines of code.

Seeking free model 3d, I found an engine called ESENTHEL engine (which often happens when looking for something in google and find another), free for non commercial use, very comprehensive and very many examples of programming.

I've wrote many messages about ESENTHEL in spanish forums and I hope that many more people come to ask for ESENTHEL.

See you soon.

Nooo, don't use google's translator XDDD
I've seen many times that speaking your own english is better than google translator, which tends to use rare words many times xD

P.S. I'm spanish too xD
P.S.S. Argg many time without touch esenthel engine, many work.

Re: Greetings to the forum
i always play around with the google translator when i am bored pfft
just take some sentence, translate it to a couple of different languages, and then back to your own language... gives some funny results sometimes pfft

anyway welcome to the forum smile
please tell everyone about the engine, so our community can grow pfft

Re: Greetings to the forum
First post, so prior to saying anything: "hello to everyone! wink "
I want to second Kaito's initiative. Thanks a million Esenthel for sharing your 3d engine. It's really impressive. Kaito is doing a great job promoting it in the Spanish-speaking community of blender. I usually use Irrlicht for my stuff but when I saw Kaito's post in the forums it immediately grabbed my attention. Now that I downlaoded the SDK and ran some of the examples I'm completely speechless on how to describe its power. I'll try to follow the examples to be able to see some of my own models running in the engine.
I wonder why there isn't more hype about it, and why it's not in Devmaster's 3d engine database? Your engine has already got things out of the box that Irrlicht, Ogre and crystal space are striving to get working.
Anyway, once more. Many thanks for your hard work. The US$100 is a tempting price to get an indie license. I'll see how things go for me with the engine and if I'm able to create some stuff with it.

regards from Colombia! grin
sincerely,
Alvaro F. celis

Re: Greetings to the forum
Ps. I just submitted it to the database! wink
It should soon show up here, among the new engines category:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.devmaster.net/engines/">http://www.devmaster.net/engines/</a><!-- m -->

I just hope I didn't screw up when posting its features wink Kidding! I used the info available from Esenthel's features page.

regards,

Alvaro

ps. Gregor, In case it doesn't show up, you can submit it and make sure all of its features are included by following this link:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.devmaster.net/engines/submit.php">http://www.devmaster.net/engines/submit.php</a><!-- m -->

But I guess it's still loading into the database. You should get an email at your gmail account since I used it for the registration. grin

Re: Greetings to the forum
Sorry Craksy, I didn't mean to be rude.
Since Grzegor's email is publicly available for contacting him, and when you fill in the info for a new engine here:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.devmaster.net/engines/submit.php">http://www.devmaster.net/engines/submit.php</a><!-- m -->
If you at least took the time to check, the fields to fill up are:
-Engine name
-Engine description
-Homepage
-Developer
-Email

So I thought the correct thing to do was to put the developer's email in case they had any questions about his engine. I'm in no way being respectless (disrespectful is the word you're looking for) here, I just did the correct thing. Please do know that I'm a 37 year old adult who has lived long enough to know and understand what respect is about. I've also been a member of the irrlicht developing team (in the artists' part, not programmers') for 4 years now and I kinda understand when credits should go to the adequate person, specially when the project is developed by a single guy (Similar case to Irrlicht which was a 1 man only project, Niko, until he decided to give some of us SVN access and made it a team project).

Anyway, I never thought they treated newcomers in such a "warm" way around here. Quite motivating. I'm used to other type of receptiveness in the different communities I hang around. As you expressed here, I was just trying to spread the word about Esenthel, to make it more popular since it's a fantastic game engine, but with this kinda community attitude I don't think many people will like to stick around.

anyway, It's been fun.

regards,
Alvaro

ps. Irrlicht's info in the 3d engine database was filled in by some anonymous John Doe, and he also used Niko's contact email. When you check the email option in the 3d engine database, it shows up as "email author". Check this link:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.devmaster.net/engines/engine_details.php?id=4">http://www.devmaster.net/engines/engine ... s.php?id=4</a><!-- m -->
So it is the author's email indeed the one that has to be filled in.
The world didn't end because of that and Niko didn't have a collapse either.

Jeez dont have a cow man! he was just worried about esenthels privacy. It was in no way a harsh greeting of sorts, just an expression of concern.

Anyway welcome to the forum i hope you learn to use this engine well and accept the community.

Im an official Esenthel Nooblet

Re: Greetings to the forum
wow... i have never in my life seen anyone overreacting like that (except from once i broke my mothers expensive vase -.-')
i didnt even read your whole post, because its ridiculousc how much you could complain about such a little thing!
i was not meaning to insult you or anything, but as lucifer said i was, just concerning about esenthels privacy!

also i said that i thaught, you did a great job on spreading the word! that was kinda meant as a compliment!
but if your want a warmer "lick ass" welcome, just say so!

kinda makes me angry, that you can take such a small thing, so personal!

Re: Greetings to the forum
calm down Craksy smile

welcome to the forum afecelis, I'm glad that you like the engine!

I've tried adding the engine into devmaster database a few times even, however from my observation it just seems that the database is just dead and not updated any more.

Re: Greetings to the forum
Thanks Esenthel. It's a real pleasure to meet you. wink
I've been going through the examples and noticed none of them uses lightmaps. I created and lightmapped a level in Deled, exported it as b3d and loaded it into Irrlicht (check video plz):
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=WAr_rOADPsc">http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=WAr_rOADPsc</a><!-- m -->
I was wondering if something similar is possible in Esenthel, or do you plan to purely support dynamically lit levels?

Right now I'm trying to load some of my meshes into Esenthel (without much success wink ) but I guess it's a matter of patience and going through the docs with calm. Anyway, I also think having a section for tutorials posted by Esenthel users in the forums would be great.

I also checked our forums and there's no mention to Esenthel anywhere, I can't believe it! wink I'm posting it as a resource in our "Tools" list, if that's ok with you.

regards,
Alvaro

ps. Any plans of an exporter for blender? wink

Re: Greetings to the forum
Very nice level, I see that you've got some skills.

Yes the lightmaps aren't used in the engine, if you'd like support for lightmaps and/or custom mesh formats please post in "suggestions and with list", it would be grat if you could provide a simple file on which I could base making the importing algorithms.

For informations about exporting from blender check out the documentation "English.chm\Resources\Mesh\Importing"

If you'll have further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Re: Greetings to the forum
Thanks! grin Mercior, another Irrlicht user but more on the programming side, used it as testbed for his RPG "Sundren":
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=440Okj_Yp9w">http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=440Okj_Yp9w</a><!-- m -->

About lightmaps, well that's one of my concerns lately. Since I'm old school I'm very used to them, but newer engines like yours are doing all the lighting in realtime so I don't know how good it may be to keep sticking with lightmaps. Somehow I feel they're refraining me from learning how things are done now with dynamic lights and shaders. However, I've found blitzbasic's b3d format to be very powerful since it supports both lightmapped levels and characters animated with a skeletal system. Info on its format specs can be found here:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.blitzbasic.com/sdkspecs/sdkspecs/b3dfile_specs.txt">http://www.blitzbasic.com/sdkspecs/sdks ... _specs.txt</a><!-- m -->
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.blitzbasic.com/sdkspecs/sdkspecs.php">http://www.blitzbasic.com/sdkspecs/sdkspecs.php</a><!-- m -->
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.geocities.com/drago_blitz/B3dFormat.html#BB3D">http://www.geocities.com/drago_blitz/B3 ... .html#BB3D</a><!-- m -->
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bcchang.com/immersive/b3d.html">http://www.bcchang.com/immersive/b3d.html</a><!-- m -->

Sorry for not being of any further help on the programming side as I'm mostly a user viewing stuff in an engine, but I'm sure you'll be familiar with the info posted above. wink If you need a level to try out just let me know. I'll also post in your "wish list" section.

regards,
Alvaro
