Computer Broke
My computer has stopped working. When it is turned on the fans, hard drives and disk drives all work but nothing else. My monitor stays asleep and my motherboard does not post. Any ideas what went wrong?

RE: It Broke
Your RAM or video card might be shorting. Try removing them one at a time until the mobo posts. Failing that, start disconnecting other devices (DVD, HDD, etc...) until you find whatever is causing the problem. If you disconnect everything and it still doesn't post, then maybe mobo has packed it in.

RE: It Broke
I'll try that fatcoder. Thanks for the help. Will post back in a while to tell of results.
No Dice. Disconnected everything one at a time and then tried only the motherboard, no luck.

When I first built my PC, I had a problem similar to this. It was caused by the 8 Pin connector not being connected to my motherboard. I would like to test if it is a similar problem now. Any suggestions?

RE: Computer Broke
if the motherboard doesn't post is unrelated to the video card. Atleast in all my computers I've had over the time and tested with a broken GPU it hasn't affected posting.
Memory should not keep him from getting into bios.
PSU CPU power socket may have burnt out.
PSU might be damaged in general and is not able to supply enough power anymore.
The motherboard might have chipped out(broken), tried a bios reset? eg move the bios pin(or reset bios button if your motherboard has it?)

RE: Computer Broke
I am going to try to reset my CMOS and see if that helps.

Luckily my motherboard and CPU are both in warranty still, so those are covered. I am not sure if my PSU is the problem or not.

As I mentioned earlier the problem is very similar to a problem I had when I first built the computer. It was caused by the 8Pin connection to my motherboard not being plugged in. Without this plugged in the CPU had no chance of booting. I am wondering if this is the problem now. Perhaps the connector blew out?

I talked to my colleges IT department yesterday and they had no clue what was wrong.

I have also sent a tech support query to AMD, OCZ and Gigabyte (CPU,PSU,Mobo), but you know how tech support is.

I have tried to boot with just my PSU, MoBo and CPU and still no beeps. So I am pretty sure that the problem is on one of those components. If my PSU is not in warrenty I might try jumping it: sticking a paper clip between the green and adjacent black wire on my 24Pin. It sounds like that might help.

Thanks for the help.

RE: Computer Broke
I just bought a 2.9 quad AMD Athlon II and it was a bad CPU. It would post on one RAM stick but hang on two. Try just one RAM stick. If it posts then the internal memory controller is bad.

RE: Computer Broke
I did a test on the PSU. It is the problem. The 4Pin and 8Pin connector to my motherboard are both bad. Neither one worked. With an older PSU I was able to get the computer to post, however it was not enough power to power my GPU so I can't be certain it was the only problem.

Thanks for the help everyone.
