Not really usefull for most of game developers, due to it Needs an expensive scanner, But I know that plenty of big game developers use 3d scanning to make realistic game characters. Due to my job I have access to 3d scanning tools: Artec Eva and the software Artec Studio. So I'm gonna try to use it to prepare game dev ready model. I'll keep you in touch.
They say, that software also works with 3d sensors (like Kinect) but.. There are free applications for this sensors.

The price is... nice
10k+ is rather expensive in my opinion.

Yeah. If not my job, I don't think I would ever have access to a such device
